Crime Stoppers

Pawnee County Crime Stoppers is one of more than 700 programs across the United States and Canada affiliated with Crime Stoppers International. It is also affiliated with the 34-member Kansas Crime Stoppers Association. Pawnee County Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards up to $1,000.00 for anonymous information that leads to an arrest, the recovery of stolen property, or seizure of illegal drugs.

A citizen board of directors recommends and pays rewards from funds raised or donated by local citizens and businesses. This board insures the integrity of the program through proper funding and publicity. There are no paid staff members. Pawnee County Crime Stoppers is a not-for-profit corporation registered with the IRS and the State of Kansas.

How Crime Stoppers Works

Anyone who calls the (620) 285-3277 hotline about a crime is given a code number. Callers do not have to tell who they are, just what they know. Crime Stoppers prefers all callers remain anonymous.  If the information provided results in an arrest or in a warrant being issued, the caller is eligible to receive a cash
reward up to $1,000.00.

Rewards

The board of directors manages the Crime Stoppers program and approves the distribution of rewards. However, the board never learns the identity of the caller. If a tip leads to the appropriate action, then tipsters call the (620) 285-3277 hotline, give their code number, and a time and place is arranged for the money to be picked up without the identity of the tipster being known. Since the identity of the tipster remains anonymous, there are no age guidelines
.
