Larned, Kansas (pop. 3,967; $12.8 million budget; municipal utilities; 53 employees), a family-oriented full service community with an incredible history, is seeking a city manager.  Larned boasts two national historic sites as part of its community—Fort Larned, a frontier era army fort, and the Santa Fe Trail Center, part of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail, the nineteenth century trail from Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Larned is in the heart of Kansas and offers a city committed to agribusiness and local growth.  For additional community information visit

The ideal applicant will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or a related field and at least five years of municipal-government experience.  Public-sector work experience may serve as an education substitute.  The successful candidate will have meaningful municipal-government, municipal utilities, and finance experience, while demonstrating organizational leadership capabilities, open communication, honesty, and sound judgment.  This community-oriented leader will promote economic development initiatives, transparency in government, and positive intergovernmental relations.  Candidates should communicate openly with the council and the community to form a strategy for success in Larned.
