The Building Inspection department's mission is to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of Larned by providing standards and enforcement of codes and regulations in areas relating to new construction, remodeling and renovation, electric, mechanical and plumbing and cross connections.
Building Inspections is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the adopted building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, property maintenance and other related codes necessary to maintain safe environments for the citizens of Larned.
Building Inspections issues permits for building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical, demolition, mobile homes and signs and is responsible for performing inspections to ensure code compliance.
In addition, Building Inspections reviews plans for proposed buildings, additions and building alterations to verify zoning and code compliance. Also enforced by Building Inspections is property maintenance.
Property maintenance is an ongoing effort towards the improvement, maintenance or removal of structures and premises in order to ensure public health, safety and welfare.

This department also issues and regulates the licensing and registration of contractors and trades people in the various fields. All building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, sprinkler installation, demolition, sign contractors and tree trimmers are required to be licensed prior to working in the City.
ALL PERMITS MUST BE APPROVED AND PAID FOR BEFORE START OF JOB!!!
Licensure includes maintaining active certificates of insurance as needed and any applicable State licenses or certifications. In addition to licensure, all trades people, including masters, journeymen and apprentices are required to provide Continuing Education certificates are required by State law and local ordinances. All licenses are renewed on an annual basis,
The Building Inspector oversees the Building Inspections department and monitors and inspects work done and permits issued within the City. The Building inspector is also Secretary of the Building Trades Board and the Board of Zoning Appeals and oversees the City/County Planning Commission.
